Pakistan Probes Multi-Country Human Placenta Trafficking Operation
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan is conducting an inquiry against an international syndicate accused of trafficking about 200 kilograms of human placenta from Pakistan per month to produce costly anti-aging injections. Five individuals have been detained after the agency raided an illegal plant located in Islamabad where 500 kilograms of suspected human placenta was seized. It is alleged that the accused purchased the organs, which are known to be hazardous medical waste, from hospitals in the area for a mere 800 rupees ($2.90) each to export them to Vietnam and elsewhere. FIA is probing the possible involvement of immigration officials, waste management firms, and personnel from hospitals. Human organs trading is a crime punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years in Pakistan.
